Electronic Essentials for Your Next International Trip

Traveling internationally can be challenging, especially if it is your first time going to another country. Not only do you need to think about all the necessary documentation, but you also want to do some research in advance about the things that some inexperienced travelers will take for granted.

For instance, as you probably know, countries have different electrical systems. And in many of them, there is different voltage within the same country. So, be prepared to bring gadgets that you usually do not have to bring on a domestic trip.

To offer you some guidance, we decided to make a list of basic electronics you should bring on your next international trip:

Travel Adapter

Travel adapters are particularly useful gadgets since countries have different plug configurations. Some of these adapters come with built-in USB ports, so you can also charge your devices. This is an absolute must-have if you want to make sure your devices are useable when traveling internationally. It is always important to say that an adapter is not a converter. The adapter will change the shape of your plug not the voltage from the socket.  An electric converter will change the voltage to that of your electronic devices.

Today many electronics have dual voltage, so check before you travel. It will be worth your time! Make a list of the ones that are dual voltage. For instance, many smartphones and tablets are already dual voltage. But before you go make sure your device is on the list!

Extra USB Cables

If you are not bringing a portable charger, you should bring an extra cable. It is not pleasant to realize that the only cable you brought with you is broken while you are still at the airport waiting for the plane! Of course, you can always buy a new one, but do you want to pay for the airport price?

Headphones/Earphones

It is not a clever idea to travel without headphones or earphones.  They are essential in today’s traveling. From audio on the plane, but also during your trip. And if you can bring noise-canceling headphones, you are in for a treat!

The bottom line is that headphones are very personal. Some people like wired while others acknowledge the value of wireless headphones.  Some prefer headphones that cover their ears while others prefer the smallest earphones available in the market. The choice is yours, and your wallet should play a crucial factor in deciding. When you’re going on your international trip, do not forget your headphones!

Power Banks

Bring the smallest, sleekest possible power bank you can find in the market. Power banks are so small today that you can easily put them in your purse or small backpack. They are extremely useful on day trips. Many travelers believe that they will always have access to an outlet, however, this is not true in many countries. Make sure you choose one with the highest Amh capacity, dual USB + USB-C Charging, and digital battery indicator.

Additional Cellphone (An old cellphone)

To have your cellphone lost or stolen overseas is a troublesome situation. For those that are fortunate enough to have money to buy a new cellphone immediately, this advice might not apply, but the reality is an old phone can be a lifesaver. Just be aware of the country you are traveling to might require you to list it with your declared goods. Do some additional research before you go and take into consideration the pros and cons of doing it.

What do you think? Would you like to suggest any other electronics to bring on an international trip? We would love to hear from you!
